Check out the synopsis here.
This is the first book of its genre that I’ve read in a very long time, and it didn’t disappoint.
Having been in a book slump for so long I was very relieved that I a) really enjoyed The Last Straw and b) found it super easy to read! The chapters were short and sweet, leaving no room to get bored. You best believe I was reading it even while falling asleep as I wanted to know what happens next!
I will state now, big trigger/content warning for Chapter One – this scene includes a character being assaulted and the man intending to r*pe her.
I have mixed feelings about the characters – bare with me, I’ll explain. Due to this books events all being straight to the point, we don’t get unnecessary information about the characters. I actually, to my surprise, quite liked that, however I did struggle a bit to remember which character is which. I did get used to this fairly early on and it ended up not bothering me, it was a nice change to read a book that doesn’t require having to remember a lot about each character.
The Last Straw is actually the second book in a series, and it is likely I will read the first book at some point as I like the sound of it!
Overall, this book surpassed my expectations and made me remember why I sometimes dabble out of reading just YA books.
Thank you so much to Kelsey @ Book Publicity Services for reaching out to me and sending me a copy of this book!
